Brenda Teruya
I am a PhD candidate in the Economics Department at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University and graduate research associate at the Center for Policy Research. I am on the 2026-2027 job market.
I study applied microeconomics, with a focus on labor and public economics. I study the relationship between immigration and crime, drawing on methods at the intersection of economics and geospatial analysis. My work draws on surbey data such as ENVIPE and geospatial rail data from Mexico's Secretaria de Transportes. The goal of my research is to inform smarter, more equitable immigration policy and to contribute to a better understanding of the drivers of criminal activity.
