Brenda Teruya

I am a PhD candidate in the Economics Department at the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs in Syracuse University. I am on the 2026-2027 job market and I am a graduate research associate at the Center for Policy Research.

I study applied microeconomics, including labor and public economics. My research focuses primarily on estimating the relation between immigration and crime. My work often sits at the intersection of geospatial analysis and economics. I frequently use surveys like ENVIPE and geospatial rail data from the Secretaria de Transportes. The goal of my research is to help inform smarter and more equitable immigration policy and reduce criminal activity.
